Absolutely not. In fact studies have shown that by investing just a small amount of time and effort in developing a growth mindset at any age can bring unexpected happiness. If you can be happy while those around you are not, would it not make you appreciate the possibility of even more? It certainly has for me, which is why I am continuing on this growth mindset track!
From my own personal experience, I have found a positive-growth mindset absolutely essential since discovering and cultivating mine! When I knew I had to leave a $120K a year job because my mental health was being destroyed by the cost cutting activities, the belief that I would get through this, and that what was next for me would just turn up was indeed true! One day, while doing one of my most amazing bits of reverse parallel parking, a neighbour said to me, you should be a driving instructor! Within 48 hours, and after some intensive research, I had signed up for Driving Instructor Training. I immediately found my transferrable skills holding their own. My openness to learn and grow into this new area of my life took me by surprise, but also gave me the confidence to get out there and make Driving become a reality for a great number of people I had never met before!
Yes, of course. I was struggling with an enforced change of role at work, and could not see where i was now heading. So on return train journey from London to Leicester I read Susan Jeffers' "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway". I was blown away by the ideas Susan presented, and by the time I walked back into the office the following morning, I was indeed a changed person. All my colleagues asked what I'd had for breakfast as they too could see that Haley was back! Overnight I had determined how I needed to move forward, how I needed to be perceived - even if I wasn't quite there yet - and how this was going see help me move forward with my career. It worked. Within 12 months I was promoted, and continued to look for more opportunities to grow individually and with my team!
Yes, personal views on aging can indeed affect various health outcomes. While there is only 25 years of research into this area, there is clear evidence that a positive mental attitude can indeed impact physical health. Studies consistently indicate that not only can views on aging be intentionally changed, but that such changes are also associated with improved health behaviour and function.
There is something called manifestation; visualising what you really want, seeing reminders of it every day. Pictures of your dream car, or holiday on the bathroom mirror or your mobile phone wallpaper, for example, can really start to turn your mindset towards a positive-growth oriented position. If you can think it, and truly believe in it, it really can happen. But it is not just about dreaming, you have to put the effort in to continue the move towards a more positive mindset. Gratitude, self-reflection and other techniques I talk about in my book, will help you to establish a new you, potentially your best you, and through that, you can begin to live a an exciting new reality.

Relationships are essential to our lives - but they bring about both wonderful splendours and terrible spectacles. our time of joy with others can be tainted by deep frustration. Growth mindsets, or simply the idea that one can personally grow from failure, can be applied to our relationships. We can choose to see these moments of frustration as opportunities to reveal a wrong, share a hurt, encourage a positive change, and build a relationship. Instead of reacting with anger and bitterness, we can confront others in hope and love. No-one ever said 'wow, I so appreciate your spiteful and hateful tone, and I will seek to do better next time. Your ire makes me respect and trust you; I now feel so close to you!'. But they might thank you for creating splendour from a spectacle through love and caring and mindfulness!
